The M.A.R.T.A. Centre – Mediterranean Aeronautics Research & Training Academy is located in the new didactic and scientific centre of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in Polo scientifico e tecnologico di Santa Panasia, Enna.
The Centre hosts the teaching and research activities of the Aerospace Engineering Degree Course and is the first laboratory in Europe equipped with flight simulators for research activities on the Human Factor of Aeronautics.
The M.A.R.T.A. centre houses a Full Motion level “D” flight simulator that replicates the CESSNA Citation C560 XLS aircraft and a static FNPT- MCC II simulator of the EC-135 twin-turbine rotary wing aircraft.
The Centre’s facilities also include the lecture halls and teachers’ offices of the Aerospace Engineering degree course and the four reference laboratories of the course: the L.I.M.A. laboratory – Aerospace Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, the HFA laboratory – Human Factor Aeronautics, the MAN laboratory – Numerical Modelling and Analysis, and the materials laboratory.
The study of the Human Factor is based on the understanding and correlation of human behaviour as a function of the activities performed.
The Human Factor Aeronautical Laboratory (HFA) houses some teaching and research activities related to the Degree Course in Aerospace Engineering and primarily the flight simulators for research activities on the Human Factor in aeronautics.
LIMA (Laboratorio di Ingegneria Meccanica ed Aerospaziale) operates in the field of consultancy and services for industrial engineering.
It carries out theoretical and applied research and contract work for external parties.
It encompasses various skills ranging from industrial technology applied to the automotive, aeronautical and naval fields to the analysis of materials used in these fields and integrated design.
The MAN Numerical Modelling and Analysis laboratory is equipped with high-performance workstations and programming and calculation software for research activities such as Matlab®, Ansys®, Comsol Multiphysics® and LabVIEW.
One of the main objectives of the Materials Laboratory is to provide a tool for day-to-day teaching, research and consultancy activities in the field of materials engineering and, in particular, the processing and characterisation of materials, especially polymer-based materials (unprocessed or multi-component).
